Per commentare degnamente il grande evento della supernova, ecco la seconda immagine della Nebulosa Velo, questa volta nel dettaglio del suo ramo est, noto anche come Nebulosa Rete, 6992 e 6995 nel catalogo NGC.

Non c’è molto da dire, il merletto è affascinante nei suoi colori e nei suoi frammenti sfilacciati che danno idea della velocità di queste immense distese di gas, polveri e materia.

Mi piace pensare a chissà quali elementi viaggiano lì dentro, magari nuvole di enormi diamanti, sintetizzati dal carbonio alle pressioni spaventose che solo una supernova può sviluppare. O a sassi di purissimo oro, grossi come palloni che ridurrebbero in briciole un’astronave e i suoi passeggeri coi loro braccialetti d’oro al polso.

L’ho ripresa tre anni fa, vicino all’osservatorio di Frasso Sabino, ed è venuta benino considerando le poche e brevi pose, ma a Frasso ho fatto sempre buone foto, forse anche grazie alle anime sante del cimitero dove stazioniamo. 
In questo caso, comunque, grazie soprattutto all’ Intes M706, uno splendido specchio russo, un Mak-Newton f/6 che mi pento, anzi mi vergogno, di usare così poco, perché ha le stelle di un buon rifrattore.

Decisamente delicata l’elaborazione di un oggetto come questo, che meno lo tocchi meglio è, anche se non puoi farne a meno, se vuoi far uscire dal buio i filamenti più deboli. Credo che sia uno dei casi in cui occorre prendere lunghe ore coi filtri interferenziali e provare tante, tutte le compositazioni, aggiungendo poi solo poche correzioni.

La caccia è sempre aperta e la prossima estate ci tornerò certamente sopra.

My comments

To worthily celebrate the supernova event, here is a second picture of Veil Nebula, now its east branch details, also known as Net Nebula, the 6992-6995 in the NGC catalogue.

There is not so much to say, the lace is wonderful in its colours, as well as in its frayed fragments giving the sense of the speed of those endless bulks of gases and dust.

I like to think to the matter flying inside there: perhaps immense clouds of big diamonds, synthesized from carbon at the tremendous pressures that only in a supernova can be reached. Or perhaps clouds of pure gold stones, as large as soccerballs, that can destroy a spacecraft and its passengers with their golden wrist bracelets.

I took the Net Nebula some three years ago, near the Frasso Sabino observatory. It came out quite nice considering the few and quick exposures, but in that site I always had good performances, may be helped by the holy souls of the cemetery, just near where we work.

In this case, most of all, due to the tube, the Intes M706, a fine Russian mirror, Mak-Newton f/6, which I regret using so seldom, its stars look like in a good refractor !

Exposures processing is not easy, this object is of the class ‘ the less you manipulate, the better is’, although you need to make weakest filaments come out from the dark. I believe this is right the case of adopting many, many, long exposures, and more, and more, using interferential filters and trying all possible combinations, seeking for the best one, with the minimum correction process.

As the big game hunting is still open, next summer I’ll try it again !
