Ancora un oggetto di questa ricca estate, sempre dal mio sito marchigiano, col mio fido Visac e con la mia QHY8 dal rosso ineguagliabile.

Oggetto non facile, debole e immerso nel mare di idrogeno della IC1318 (Butterfly Nebula) in prossimità di gamma Cygni (Sadr).

Definita come nebulosa a emissione è, in realtà, un incrocio atipico tra resti di supernova e una nebulosa planetaria. Si tratta di un guscio di gas, in equilibrio tra una spinta implosiva e una esplosiva, risultante dall’incontro-scontro di una gigante rossa con una Wolf-Rayet star.

La montatura Linear ha esibito di nuovo un'ottima stabilità, con qualche spike iniziale in DEC, rapidissimo e ininfluente. Guida stabile, nessun mosso, sempre con 1-2 “ di oscillazione in RA e qualche picco 2-3” in DEC.

Seeing buono, ma non ottimo, umidità bassa, vento assente o debole da SW.

E' il risultato di lunghe esposizioni nell'arco di diverse notti, estive, brevi ma molte.

Devo dire che 12 ore in Ha + 2 in colore sono un record, non ho mai posato tanto su un oggetto in tanti anni ! Del resto la Crescent esce subito nella parte superiore, basterebbe anche il solo colore, ma, se vuoi i dettagli interni, bisogna passare tanto tempo in posa.

My comments

One more summer object, from my site near Ascoli: the Crescent Nebula (NGC6888) in Cygnus, embedded in the hydrogen ocean of Butterfly Large Nebula (IC1318).

Although often reported as a bright nebula, the NGC6888 is a gaseous shell resulting from the collision of a red giant with a Wolf-Rayet star. A special mixture between supernova remnant and a planetary nebula, balancing internal and external pushes.

Again with my Visac, a masterpiece with the highest performance-to-cost ratio I know !

The  Linear mount, the newborn baby by Avalon showed a stable guide with minimum RA oscillations (1-2”) and few spikes in DEC (2-3”). No one out of the 15 min shots resulted blurred.

Clear and dark the sky, acceptable the seeing, low humidity, some weak wind from SW.

The exposure was indeed the longest I ever did, so that the cost-to-performance ratio appears quite high. But that’s the Crescent nebula I guess, with the upper part easy to come out, while the lower one, as well as the inner details, need a long work to be stressed.

La celebre nebula in Sagittario è stata la prima preda d'estate, all'inizio di Luglio dalla mia postazione fissa sopra Ascoli Piceno e voglio che sia l’esordio del mio blog.

Una delle prime uscite con la neonata Linear della Avalon, fermamente voluta, progettata e realizzata da Luciano Dal Sasso, mio amico e sodale di tante serate. Al suo esordio si è comportata egregiamente, neanche un mosso, solo qualche iniziale guizzo in DEC che la guida neanche ha visto, figuriamoci la posa !

Guida con Guidemaster tramite il vecchio ma fido DA2, anche se la ST4 ha fatto qualche capriccio. Ma di notti senza impicci, ne ricordo davvero poche e mi sa pure che mi sono un po' annoiato !

L'ho ripresa in tre notti, sembrano tante ma il Sagittario, si sa, fa poco più che capoccella e ho dovuto anche aspettare che uscisse dalle luci di Ascoli. Poi qualche nuvoletta quà e là e l'oggetto scadeva a SW dietro a un dispettoso camino.

Mi piace così M20, come viene, senza forzature di intensità e colore. So che si può fare meglio, la prossima estate spero di farlo, con più lunghe esposizioni coi filtri interferenziali e magari entrandoci dentro con i 3 metri del vecchio ZEN, specchio di razza che tengo troppo a riposo. Oppure immersa e sommersa dalle nubi caustiche del centro della galassia col metro di focale del TEC 140 che, ne faccio pubblica ammenda, dorme da anni sotto al mio letto.

My comments

The well-known nebula in Sagittarius was my first target this summer, at early July, from my site just above Ascoli Piceno. That’s why I choose it as the debut of my blog.

One of the first sessions with the newborn Linear of Avalon, firmly wanted, designed and manufactured by Luciano Dal Sasso, the fellow of so many starry nights.

It behaved smartly, no blurred shots, just few ininfluent peaks in DEC, at the start, leaving no traces in the pictures.

Satisfactory the guide by Guidemaster, as well, with few problems on ST4 communication port.

But I do not remember many sessions without troubles, when, however, I guess I was boring a bit !

I made M20 during three nights, seem quite several indeed but the Sagittarius rises just the head as known. More, the Ascoly lights, some travelling clouds together with a naughty chimneypot reduced markedly the already short summernight time.

I like the Trifida as it comes out, without forcing either the luminance or the colours.

Next summer, may be, I’ll do better either using only interferential filters or by penetrating the nebula with the 3 metres of my prestigious ZEN or embedded on star clouds with my TEC 140, that, shame on me, sleeps under my bed since too long !

Questo è un oggetto relativamente raro, essendo un ramo della Velo, non è neanche classificato nei cataloghi. E’ la parte superiore del ramo adiacente al guscio di SE, quello con la stella 52 Cygni.

Ripreso in orizzontale, vale a dire EW, con la dovuta focale, tra 1.5 e 2 m, appare come un fascio di rametti di un albero, un tralcio di vite, con mille piccole ramificazioni. Oppure il sistema capillare di vene e arterie, visti anche i colori dominanti, rosso e blu, appunto.

Non è facile centrarlo, non ha asterismi evidenti e il quadro dipende molto dall’inclinazione.

Inoltre è un soggetto debole, specie le ramificazioni minori richiedono tante pose lunghe e la necessità di raccogliere i dettagli impedisce di perdere risoluzione ricorrendo al binning, perlomeno in Ha e OIII.

Ci ho messo quattro notti, considerando qualche problemino e qualche nuvoletta passeggera.

La guida è stata buona e la Linear stabile e morbida come al solito per lunghe ore.

Nonostante i lunghi tempi di posa, specie in Ha, non sono sicuro di aver indovinato il filtraggio, ho l’impressione che sia meglio usare il blu-verde sintetico invece di quello dell’RGB, ma ancora non riesco a rinunciare al colore, visto che la mia camera è un'OSC. Né sono riuscito a correggere bene il colore delle stelle nell'elaborazione.

Comunque l’oggetto mi piace, è piuttosto nuovo e ricco di dettagli e sfumature colorate.

Proverò a riprocessarlo e magari a farlo ancora, ma con una camera B/N e tricromia interferenziale.

My comments

This is a quite rare object indeed, which, being a part of the Veil Nebula, is not reported in any catalogues. It is the upper part of the branch adjoining the SE shell, the one with 52 Cygni. When rotated along SW and using the right focal length, say 1.5 – 2 m, it looks like a branch of tree with thousands of ramifications or the capillary system of arteries and veins, red and blue, respectively.

To centre the triangle markedly depends upon the tilt and the absence of evident asterisms doesn’t help to reset the same frame from one session to the other.

Moreover, it is definitively weak, particularly on the finest and thinest details that require several long shots and prevent from binning techniques, at least in Ha filtering.

It took me four entire nights, considering small troubles and clouds passing here and there.

The guide was good and the Linear mount kept stable and smooth for long hours.

Despite of the long shots, particularly in Ha, I am not happy with the filtering criteria I adopted, since I have the impression that the use of synthetic blue-green would be preferable, but I cannot renounce to RGB shoots having an OSC CCD.

Although the colours are not satisfactory, I like this object and its rich colours details.

Very probably I’ll try to reprocess it and even to make it once again next summer with a B/W CCD camera and three-colour interferential technique.
